Two volumes on biographical and grammatical studies. The present manuscript encompasses
the largest part of the first volume of Tahdhīb al-asmā' wa-al-lughāt, biographies
of men of the early Islamic period. The manuscript text begins on f. 2a in the middle of the introduction, compared with
the edition of Wüstenfeld (Göttingen 1842-1847) where the relevant text is on p. 25,
line 2. On f. 2b of the present manuscript the biography section starts, beginning
with the prophetʾs biography, ending with the biography of Abū Juḥayfa. f. 1 has been replaced. Compared to the Wüstenfeld edition where the relevant text
is on p. 667, lines 5, to p. 669 below, f. 1 of the present manuscript should be placed
after f. 202. Between ff. 1-203, parts of the text are missing. Missing is a part
of the biography of Abū Bakr al-Awdanī until the beginning of the biography of Abū
Bakr ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥāriṯ ... al-Qurashī al-Makhzūmī al-Madanī al-Tābiʾī. In the Wüstenfeld edition these text passages can be found on p. 669, last line, to
p. 672, second line from below. On the upper margins of some folii waqf-entries can be found.
