After the Ḥaurān judgeship, he isolates himself in his house and only leaves it for the five prayers at the Umawī.
But in this house he develops a frantic, even compulsive building activity, always changing and re-arranging the minutest details just on the comment or passing criticism of some visitor.
Profound knowledge of history and adab. He authors a safīna. Exchange of poems with محمد بن هلال.
